We’ve Got Our Ducks In A Row

And Away They Go!More fun in Roswell this weekend! The Great Duck Race benefited Keep Roswell Beautiful and was a hoot – or a quack – from start to finish.  It’s part of Rivers Alive, a statewide clean-up of our rivers and streams.  A beautiful day and a bunch of rubber ducks on Big Creek?  Yes, indeed!

Our connection to nature is an important piece of Roswell’s identity.  The Chattahoochee winds through much of metro Atlanta, and it’s certainly been immortalized in song (I’m not just thinking of Alan Jackson, I’m also thinking of Drivin’ N’ Cryin’).  The river has a unique and special place in our hearts – we claim a piece of it as ours as it reminds us of centuries of settlement and war and of how we became to be who we are.

IMG01039Roswell is blessed with ample opportunities to cross paths with the natural world.  Barred owls hoot and cluck every night as they hunt and court each other up and down Hog Wallow Creek behind my house; my parents and their dog cross paths with deer at Leita Thompson Park.  The Chattahoochee Nature Center (www.chattnaturecenter.org) has long been a place of play and refuge.  On beautiful days, and not-so-beautiful days, Roswell finds ways to get outside and connect.

I’m thankful for organizations like Keep Roswell Beautiful, the Nature Center, and all of the other entities that preserve our wonderful resources.  Get out and enjoy!

P.S. Ever heard a barred owl?

P.P.S. Wondering about my reference to Drivin’ N’ Cryin’?
